Focus on the rule for adding these suffixes to long vowel word that end in a final e (hope – hoping and hoped)

· These spelling patterns ew’ , ‘iew’ sound like

sound and know that they are different
· Understand that long ‘u’ can sound like ‘you’
and ‘oo’

Weeks 6 -7 Term 1
We will be focusing on the long 'i' sound for spelling. The children have been given 5 words that focus around the long 'i' sound and the other words have been found from their writing books. It might be handy to have a look on spelling city as it has activities that link to each of the groups spelling words.During these two weeks we will be focusing on:
Being able to identify words that have the long 'i' sound in it.
To write the long 'i' sound with i, y, igh, and i_e patterns
That y is often used to write the long 'i' sound when it is the last sound in a one-syllable word.
The i_e pattern happens at the end of a word.
The igh pattern is usually followed by a t or is the last sound in a word.
